What is Hijama?

Definition

Hijama is an arabic word which commonly refers to the cupping therapy (and more specifically to the wet cupping which we will develop further). It originates from the arabic word hijama which literally means “sucking”. Hijama is a complementary treatment to prevent many illnesses. History has proved that this technic has been practiced for many thousands of years throughout the world.

Hijama is the process of applying cups to various points on the body by removing the air inside the cups to form a vacuum. Small superficial incisions are made afterwards on the skin and the cups are reapplied. It works as an effective pain relief and removes stagnant blood from beneath the surface of the skin.
